Otti Receives Former PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate Into Labour Party, Reaffirms Commitment To Abia’s Development

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has reiterated his determination to remain focused on delivering his administration’s mandate, declaring that he will not be distracted until his mission for the state is fully accomplished.

The governor made this known on Monday, April 20, 2026, while receiving former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Jasper Uche, who recently defected to the Labour Party.
Speaking during the meeting at Government House, Otti expressed appreciation for Uche’s support and his recognition of the administration’s efforts, noting that such encouragement strengthens his resolve to continue delivering good governance.

He emphasized that his administration remains committed to its objectives despite past political challenges, stressing the importance of resilience and faith.
“We have a mission, and until that mission is completed, we will not stop. We will not give up, and we will not be distracted,” the governor said, adding that the current political direction in the state aligns with divine purpose.

Otti also assured the new entrants of his administration’s openness and inclusiveness, describing the people of the region as hospitable and welcoming. He directed the Commissioner for Lands, Chaka Chukwumerije, to coordinate the formal reception and integration of Uche and his supporters into the party structure in Umunneochi Local Government Area.
Earlier, Uche said his decision to join the Labour Party was driven by the governor’s “visible, verifiable and people-centered” achievements across the state. He pledged the support of his political structure, including members of the Ihe Abia Organisation, towards ensuring Otti’s re-election in 2027.

According to him, his group is committed to strengthening grassroots mobilization, particularly in Umunneochi, where he promised to significantly boost voter turnout in support of the governor.
“We have come to complement the efforts already on ground and to make the work easier,” Uche stated, noting that his supporters are committed stakeholders rather than passive political actors.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu, senior government officials, and members of the Ihe Abia Organisation.
