Fubara’s Performance Record Justifies Second Term Bid — Dagogo Achese
A public affairs commentator, Dagogo Achese, has said that the performance of Governor Siminalayi Fubara provides a strong basis for a second term in office, citing wide-ranging achievements across infrastructure, healthcare, education, and workers’ welfare.
Achese noted that despite political challenges and distractions, governance in the state has remained steady, with several projects completed and others ongoing across multiple sectors.
According to him, key infrastructure projects executed by the administration include the 10.9-kilometre Aleto–Eteo–Ebubu Road, the Okania–Ogbogoro Road, and the Omoku–Egbema Road, all of which have been inaugurated. He also highlighted ongoing projects such as the Port Harcourt Dual Carriage Ring Road and the Trans-Kalabari Road, describing them as critical to improving connectivity and economic activities.
He further pointed to the completion of roads like the Rumukwurushi–Igbo Etche Road and the Chokocho–Igbodo–Okpala Road, as well as the construction of internal roads in Bori and Rumuolumeni, as evidence of the administration’s commitment to grassroots development.
In the health sector, Achese referenced the construction and inauguration of zonal hospitals in Bori and Ahoada, alongside the rehabilitation of over 100 health centres across the state. He also noted the recruitment of 2,000 health workers as a step toward strengthening primary healthcare delivery.
On education, he cited the completion of the Model Secondary School in Ataba, rehabilitation of Okrika Grammar School, and ongoing investments in tertiary institutions, including facilities at Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic.
Achese also commended the government’s efforts in workers’ welfare, particularly the implementation of a ₦85,000 minimum wage, payment of promotion arrears, and the clearing of pension backlogs, with payments now reportedly made consistently.
He added that economic empowerment initiatives, including a ₦4 billion soft loan scheme for small and medium enterprises and a ₦1 billion recapitalisation fund, are supporting business growth and job creation.
In the area of security, the commentator highlighted the provision of logistics and equipment to security agencies, including vehicles, gunboats, and housing support, aimed at strengthening safety and stability in the state.
Achese argued that these interventions, alongside ongoing housing projects and public sector infrastructure upgrades, demonstrate a focused and people-oriented administration.
“These projects are not just statistics; they reflect tangible improvements in the daily lives of Rivers people,” he said.
He concluded that with visible progress recorded across key sectors, continuity in leadership would allow for the consolidation of ongoing projects and sustained development in the state.
