Eno Moves To Reposition AKADEP For Enhanced Agricultural Productivity
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalising the Akwa Ibom Agricultural Development Programme (AKADEP) to strengthen extension services and boost agricultural productivity across the state.
The Governor made this known on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, while speaking with Government House correspondents shortly after inspecting newly revamped facilities at the AKADEP premises.
He emphasised the critical role of extension services in agricultural development, noting that AKADEP was originally established to provide technical support and guidance to farmers, particularly in rural communities.
According to him, the programme must return to its core mandate by leveraging its widespread presence across all local government areas to educate farmers, organise training seminars, and identify genuinely active farmers for targeted government support.
“AKADEP should focus on extension services. It was set up to support our rural farmers, and that is what we are repositioning it to do,” the Governor stated. “With their presence in every local government, they have the capacity to train farmers, organise seminars, and help us identify those who are actively engaged in farming so that government interventions reach the right people.”
Governor Eno, who conducted the inspection shortly after commissioning the Agricultural Equipment Leasing Facility, also stressed the importance of synergy among the various components of the agricultural sector to achieve optimal productivity.
He described AKADEP as a well-conceived initiative that had underperformed over the years, expressing regret over its previous inefficiencies.
Reiterating his administration’s development philosophy, the Governor assured that ongoing and inherited projects across the state would be revitalised and fully utilised, rather than abandoned for new initiatives.
The move, he said, is part of a broader strategy to ensure sustainable development and maximise the impact of government investments in key sectors such as agriculture.
